PILOT PROGRAMME WITH INCLUSIVE EDUCATION SOUTH AFRICA (IESA)
JANUARY – JUNE, 2017
During the first 6 months of 2017, we have worked very closely with IESA on a pilot programme to strengthen the inclusion of all children with special needs and especially children with disabilities, through our various programmes.
Through a series of IESA training sessions for all staff, we have worked closely with IESA on deepening and intensifying our understanding of “inclusion” and “exclusion”, and IESA facilitators have worked especially closely with our Bus and Mobile ECD Unit Playgroup Facilitators in a very practical way, on ways of adapting our existing playgroup programme so that ALL young children are afforded a greater chance of receiving the early support, care and protection which they need.
Given the profile of the communities we serve, especially informal settlement communities and isolated rural communities, where children do not have access to specialised services, it is crucial to support and promote inclusive practices so that no child is excluded.
